Interiors // November 2012 Elle Decor

I'd like to call a moment of silence for the home of Alex Papachristidis as seen in this month's Elle Decor.

Now let's talk about what's working, starting with the library above.
Oh, wait. That would be everything.
Except I'd maaaaybe consider painting the ceiling a (light) color. Icy blue?

Mmhmm. Complaints here?
Only that I am fairly certain I can't afford that wallpaper.

I'm obsessed with all of the cool tones/fabrics and their play with the golds/woods/warm wallpaper.
Everything looks so rich. It's tough for some people to make antiques look so inviting.

Please look at that floor. Shit be busy as hell in this space and it's still soothing, particularly in that first shot of the living room.
Is that even possible?

This dining room is nails (no pun intended).
Nailheads on walls is very clearly trending this year. I'm okay with that.
The peace sign throws me a little bit. Looks sort of like my 6-year-old niece made it out of tinfoil.

Ready for the bedrooms?

No you're not.

Boom!
Granted, it would be a lot to take it every morning and every night.
But let's say it's your guest room. Your gorgeous over the top guest room.

Or perhaps you prefer reds?

Sweet Jesus, I would pay good money to see this place in person. Obscene amounts to be their guest for a night or two (one night in each room for good measure).

Well done, Mr. Papachristidis. Well done.

outdoors // in need of some patio time

you guys, this week has been exhausting. yesterday was one of those days that nothing goes your way. mountains of work to do . . . computer acting up . . . just hearing other people talk annoys the shit out of you . . . it was not pretty, to say the least. it's both a gift and a curse that tomorrow is the same deadline for my many projects. it might mean pulling an all-nighter if today doesn't go more smoothly than yesterday did, so cross your fingers for some creative genius.

i digress.

to that point, you might have noticed that there have not been many progress updates on the house lately. well, that's because there has been little to no progress on the house! unless you're talking about outdoors, which is where all of our spare moments (and spare pennies) have been going. this is definitely old news to those of you with yards, but i have to admit that this is my first yard to care for. which, let's not kid ourselves, the husband is doing most of the work. (bless him!) between a hot, dry summer last year and the fact that the previous owners left in late winter, we have had some fairly significant work to do. lots of landscaping to clean up, patchy grass to fertilize (responsibly, mind you!), 8,000 of those spiky sugar gum balls to corale, and leaves that are seriously still appearing out of nowhere . . . the list goes on. but it's surprisingly rewarding to see things transform to the beauty that i know the previous owners enjoyed.

then there's the matter of our empty deck. literally, once the weather warmed up and things started blooming, all of my priorities shifted from furnishing the house to outfitting our deck and patio! we have a fantastic space for which i have no photos (except this one from my move-in post), but i assure you, it's stupid awesome. and it needs clothes. once i started pulling research, i quickly realized that i gravitate towards the clean, modern wicker look. and i've since been educating myself on what to know about buying and/or maintaining that faux wicker beauty.

all this to say that i'd been pretty focused on a certain direction until i finally let myself sit down with this month's issue of elle decor, and i got an eye-full of erik hyman and max mutchnick's swanky LA grounds. holy heaven!

you guys are all invited over for cocktails on the patio!
just as soon as i get my chores done . . .

interiors || twisted tradition

you're going to have to excuse the interior-heavy posts for the next few weeks. i'm a bit obsessed, as you can imagine. the loft is slimming down and the boxes are piling up around here. it's bittersweet now that it's all real. i've wanted it so badly for the last few months, and now i'm starting to see what i'll be losing when we make this move (albeit gaining a great deal, too!).

anyhoo . . . i've been stealing away moments to peek through some of my old shelter mags as i pack them up. i'm one of those that tabs my pages when i come across something yummy. are you? it's enlightening to see how my taste has evolved in the last year or so. i have some beautiful spaces marked in the november 2010 elle decor, no doubt. but one that i didn't mark a year ago that i've now reveled in thoroughly is the upstate new york collaboration of architect gil schafer and (longtime fave of mine) miles redd. please observe:

don't argue with me. that shiz is good. worldly, unexpected, colorful, perfectly layered . . .
what's not to like?
