Want in Every Color // 06

Every year about this time, I fall victim to the Anthro dinnerware trap. Their patterns are just so. darn. beautiful. Perfectly playful, summery and total showstoppers.

Then there's this loverly little assortment of app/dessert plates.

Aaaaand then there's always the linens.

Sun Dots napkin // Sun Stripes napkin // Ikat napkin // Smoke Dahlia napkin (gorgeous color assortment!)

Just you stop it, Anthro.

Am I the only one that can't go into that store for risk of blowing an entire paycheck...or ten?

Monday Blues // 33

ummm...nails.
I love anything with that collected over time feel with irreverent use of color.

Also, this happened yesterday:

This is the door from our kitchen/eat-in to the garage. I've been wanting to paint it for-ev-er, but have been going back and forth between a bold color or black. Black feels classic and safe, so I knew I had to try this first. I love the color long time, but I didn't get immediately giddy upon seeing it hung, so I'm not sure it's staying. It was also 11pm after a long weekend of moving my mama and having Eric out of town, so we'll live with it for awhile before making any rash decisions. Plus, I think he would kill me if I made any such demands right away. So more on this later.

Home Depot patio reveal tomorrow, ya'll!
I'll be posting a bit later than usual -- 9am Central.

Design // Montero

I haven't posted much on the design front lately. Guess my attention has been elsewhere (like on actually getting a house decorated!) These branding bits from Anagrama are definitely inspiring me!

LOVE the simplicity and the natural combined with luxe.

Pattern Play

Well, since Target's Threshold collection, Zara Home making it to the U.S., and Lulu&Georgia's magnificent debut have been sufficiently covered in the blogsphere, how about simply a bit of eye candy on this fine Friday?

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5

I am truly obsessed with the pattern, texture and color stories in these images. Can't. Stop. Staring.
Enjoy your weekend! ox

house guest // the aestate

i really doubt that today's house guest needs any introduction. if you haven't been following jessica before now, you have seriously been missing out. she's hilarious, stylish, honest, and has an unbelievable eye for design. i'd be lying if i said that i don't occasionally want to lick my computer screen when i see her posts. i'm also fairly certain we'd be fast friends in real life if we ever met. super honored to have her visit today!
. . . . . . .

Jessica here from The Aestate! I want to give a big thanks to Tobe for having me as her house guest!

Variety is the spice of life and nothing gives a room the “wow” factor like a great pattern combination, but mixing patterns can be tricky. The pros make it look easy- throwing together mixes that looks effortlessly chic and daring. Its a skill I'd love to master myself, but it takes time and practice to develop an eye for patterns that play well together, so I want to share with you a basic method used by many decorators. Remember we’re not just talking throw pillows here. Upholstery, curtains, rugs, wallpaper, lamp shades, and trims are all opportunities to inject some pattern and texture into a room. When you’re feeling stuck, try this method for selecting patterns…
  1. Pick a large-scale pattern with many colors in it: This one will set the tone for the whole room. The more colors it contains, the easier time you’ll have finding textiles to fit the mix in the room.
  2. Pick a medium-scale pattern with a few colors found in the first pattern:  Doesn’t need to have all the colors, but it definitely should have a different motif.
  3. Now, pick one small scale pattern with just a few or one of the colors found in the first two: This one can have a similar motif as one of the first two.
  4. Bonus:Add one or more very small-scale patterns or textures.
I hope these rooms will inspire you to mix it up...

Have any pattern mixing tips to share?

making plans || G/uest's room

i think i'm more focused on G's bedroom than any other space in the house right now (this room also acts as our guest room since we're only working with one spare bed at the moment). i just want it to be even a little bit put together so she feels at home when she stays with us.

creating a room fit for a preteen that also suits guests of all ages sounds tricky. lucky for me, the kid gets into interior design . . . and has a sense of style all her own. which is pretty nails if i do say so myself. we've settled on dark purple for her walls (exact shade yet to be determined if anyone has any recs). the room gets great light, so i have no qualms about such a dominant color.

i'm fairly certain you'll be able to pick up a theme in my inspiration folder:
(get ready --- there is no shortage of research for this room!!)

i'm so fired for this, but images via pinterest
(come on, there are a thousand!)

hmmmm . . . detect any themes? i adore the idea of a 4 poster with drapery panels, but i'm not sure we can get past the fan (and, i'm sorry, but fans are just practical in bedrooms, so it's probably staying). still thinking perhaps some drapery over a headboard, but those are tough to execute without looking cheesy, so we'll see. we'll definitely need a short desk as one of the bedside tables, a charming 3-drawer dresser with a large mirror situation, we both loooove the idea of a small chaise (in a pop color maybe??), and lots and lots of layering of pattern and texture.

so there you have it. one room planned(ish) . . . nine more to go!
