House Updates // Lately

We have been working hard around here, and some very fun things are happening.

First, behold Eric's b-e-a-utifully crafted bench, made from an old rafter that my cousin was keeping around for a someday project. I seriously go weak thinking about what the two of them could do if they combined forces. I mean, they could literally build anything. This bench makes me very happy.

That cabinet is brand new on the scene and is hiding copious amounts of baby stuffs that we don't require right away. We didn't reeeeeeeally need it, but it was so gorgeous and such a steal that I figured it would be one of those pieces I always regretted not snatching up. And so we did.

Our weather was seriously glorious over the weekend so we (and, of course, by "we" I mean Eric) took advantage and repainted the door to the garage. From a freakish turquoise (actually a very gorgeous color, just didn't read well in this dark space) to a crisp, classic black (Krylon's indoor/outdoor in satin finish). I'm still getting used to it because it's sooo different, but I love it. Other doors in the house need beware of my new infatuation.

Paint goes a long way, yo.

We also scored -- and I mean scored -- a new dining table. FINALLY. I was about to throw in the towel on this one and drop some serious coin. Luckily, my mom is the ultimate Craigslist stalker and spotted this beauty before I had to do any such thing.

It's not in perfect condition, but I didn't expect it to be for the price. So we will eventually need to do a little sanding and staining. But it's the size I was looking for, has a beautiful ebony finish, an interesting pedestal base, and will expand when we need it to (but stays round! Yessssssss!!!). Now I feel like I can make some real decisions on the dining room. Gosh, if I can get that room together, only the entry and family room will remain.

Speaking of the entry...

It's going dark. Not quite black, but very very close. I'm leaning towards BM's Soot. This from an acid green (the previous owners really liked their green), which is actually not a bad color at certain times of day but horror film green in artificial light. There really isn't much wall space in this entry, so it won't be overwhelming, and will look quite crisp with all of the white trim. I hesitate juuuuust a little as it makes its up the stairs and into the second floor hallway. Will be pretty dark. But I figure that gives me every reason to start collecting and just fill the walls with family photos and art!

The original 1960s entry flooring will be addressed someday....but not for awhile. Our new fixture (discussed last week) has arrived and will go up soon. Woop!

The nursery is super close to completion as well. I'm making the final calls on a few loose ends and then I will show you the goods, I promise. I cannot wait to show you the before and after! Especially the closet. I mean, you won't even recognize the space from before! It will definitely blow ya minds.

Naturally, I made Eric paint the drawer knobs gold. What else would you expect from a brass addict?

Monday Blues // 45

I would like to be at this bar right now, drinking all of those delicious bevvies.

In all actuality, my craving for adult beverages is only really bad when I'm scrolling through my Instagram feed or the words "happy" and "hour" are anywhere near the same sentence. Otherwise, I can't lie -- I don't miss hangovers at. all.

How was everyone's weekend??

Guest Post // The Short and Sweet of It

Today I'm sitting in for new mama, Alexa, who recently welcomed a sweet baby boy into her family. We're talking things I'm loving lately, summer edition (since our temps have gone back down to tolerable around here, thank goodness). A little bit of decor, design, fashion and tabletop inspiration. Would love for you to come visit!

Also, last day to enter to win this limited edition beauty. Winner announced tomorrow!

Hump Day Pop Quiz

You guys, I'm deliriously tired. These last few weeks have been such a complete blur, trying to accomplish as much as possible and still take it easy at the same time.

Note: That is a trick statement. Impossible feat.

I just don't have the will to blog some nights, you know? But instead of leaving you hanging today, we're just going to have a little quiz.

1. What do these two rooms have in common?

2. I want a (fake) Beni like everyone else, right? Maybe in Baby Reed's new walk-in closet, which I will then proceed to pretend is mine? Is that weird? (I blame this post from Ally for reigniting my lust....and instilling a lust for a camel leather couch on top of it.)

3. Since I am NOWHERE NEAR as ambitious as Jessica, I should just pull the trigger on this guy for my entryway, right? I've been eyeing it for a really long time.

4. I should also man up and just take on one more major task before bambino arrives. Namely, transforming my entryway into this (but with the greek key goodness in #3).

5. True or False: I am nesting like a mutha.

5. True or False: Some of you are straight cray for not entering to win one of Hannah's Eve of Destruction prints yet. Your odds are stupid good. Enter and send it to me, m'kay?

Answers:
1) They both want to be my living room.
2) I kinda do.
3) Probably already ordered it.
4) Yes. But I should remember that my original tile floors and grout are going to look dirty as hell when everything else is crisp black and white.
5) That's the truth, Truth.
6) YES, you should enter, for the love!

Monday Blues // 44

Obsessed with the fabric on those chairs.
Also with this nursery from the same home.

I dig the impact of the rug, but I'm not sure I love the rug.

Hope you all had a great weekend! We acquired a new piece for the formal. This was, of course, totally necessary because when you spot things on Craigs, you have to jump whether you actually need them or not. Amiright? So now I can say a room in our house is actually done!! Hell hath frozen over.

The nursery is very close behind. I just want it to be ready already! We hit the 37 week mark on Saturday, which means we should technically be prepared for bambino to arrive at any time. Cra-zy. I was 1cm dilated at my last doctor appointment -- yes, I know it can take weeks to dilate further, but that really did light a fire!

Snagged a couple other beauties while scouring one of our local antique malls for a dining table. I came up short on the table, but apparently can't pass up the brass no matter how hard I try.

Totes had to.
Happy Monday!

Want in Every Color // 07

Hello hello! Sorry to miss you guys yesterday. We had family in, which meant play time last night and lots of cleaning the night before. (Don't you love that having people over is the number one only reason to deep clean?)

I had something else planned for today's post but then I came across the adorable Candy Kirby Designs and couldn't help but post these presh tot leggings. This is a very literal want them in every color post, friends. So. Cute.

She also sells really bad ass crib sheets. Umm...daaaayum.
Wish I knew I was having a girl. I'd be all over that!

House Guest // Sadie & Stella

Today's house guest probably needs little introduction. The one and only Lindsay from Sadie and Stella is here with a delicious Jonathan Adler inspired look. I love the mix of metals and bright colors, don't you?

Wear/Where // A Sunny Afternoon Co. Inspired

Have you guys caught Sarah Sherman Samuel's new shop, A Sunny Afternoon Co.? Chock full of straight adorableness made right here in the U.S. I highly recommend a peep. I mean, the Green Cross Tea Towel was cute enough to inspire today's Wear/Where...which is saying something, right?

From Gaby // What I love about maxi skirts is that they have this incredible versatility to dress you up while keeping your look relaxed, and the colour of this pleated maxi skirt really caught my eye, isn't it stunning?! So, to dress it down for a relaxed Saturday morning, I paired it with some of my summer staples: a laid-back white tee and low wedge black espadrilles. The floral clutch adds the perfect punch of summer fun (that kind of rhymes huh?!), and to complete the look, classic aviators and a boho chic wood and tassel necklace do the trick ;)
tea towel // napkin // mercury tealight holders (one, two) // glassware // plate // chairs // saarinen table

As for the where, I'm imagining a casual Saturday morning with veggie omelets and one too many extra spicy bloody marys. A marble top Saarinen table paired with these beautiful classic chairs starts us off with a delightfully modern look. I recommend softening things up with a set of Anthro's insanely gorgeous Sissinghurst Castle plates. Napkins and glasses in playful colors are obviously a must. Add some greenery and a bit of sparkle to round things out. True romance at the breakfast table, no?
